Time: 15:30-17:30, 9th June
Location: Medical Building Seminar Room 2
As scientists a large part of our time is spent communicating our work with others, perhaps in the form of submitted papers, publications or presentations. The majority of this work involves communication with other scientists in our own field and there are plenty of opportunities to practice and improve these skills in the normal course of our work.
Increasingly academics are being asked to talk with audiences outside their research field. Whether this is policy-makers, school groups or the WI, these conversations can sometimes be tricky - how can everyone get the most out of it?
Kate Cross and Lewis Dean will draw on a wealth of experience engaging with public audiences to give you some tips and hints for successful communication, ideas for getting stuck in and advice on what to do if it all seems to be going wrong.
(Warning: this session may contain practical communication!).
