What is the Defending your research session about?
This session will give the participants (irrespective of the stage in research) certain tips on how to defend their research. There will be four parallel sessions, one for each research theme. The session will be a mix of talks and discussion on the following:
1. Key points to discuss while defending (initial presentation while defending)
2. What the reviewers are looking for (mainly concerned about)
a. First year defence
b. Second year defence
c. Third year defence
3. Coping stress before/while defending research
4. Types of questions and how to answer them
a. Basic research related questions
b. Questions about limitations of the work
c. Awkward questions (can be anything)
d. Other types
5. How to prepare for a defense
a. Things to do before defending
b. Things not to do while defending
6. Most essential points from the point of view of a student
7. Most essential areas which will determine the result of the defence
8. Pitfalls to avoid when preparing for and defending research
Session structure:
· Talk : 30-40 minutes
· Q&A: 15 minutes
· Interaction session: 25 minutes
