What is the Skills for Industry session about?
The sessions is aimed at providing delegates with an insight into the skills they will require for a career in the ICT sector.
The event will consist of a short (10 – 15 minutes) introduction by Polly Purvis, the director of ScotlandIS, who will be giving a talk on the current state of the IT industry in Scotland. This is followed by a one-hour panel discussion by industry leaders on the skills needed and expected by PhD graduates who're thinking about joining the IT industry upon completion of their PhD.
The panel members consist of managerial and technical representatives from various IT sectors in Scotland, namely:
Alistair Hann, CTO, Skyscanner
Andrew Birkett, Senior Engineer, Amazon
Cally Russel, Mallzee
Rodrigo Barnes, CTO, Aridhia
Simon Allbutt, Head of HR, DC Thomson
How to participate?
During the registration, you will be asked if you intend to attend this session or the alternative parallel session “Funding Proposal for Academia”. Please indicate your preference on the registration form.
