SHELTON STATE HOSTS SHELTON’S BEST KICKOFF

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – Shelton State Community College hosted Shelton’s BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) Kickoff on Thursday, September 14. Students from twenty-two middle and high schools attended this year’s Kickoff event including schools from Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, Hale, and Jefferson Counties.

This year’s theme, Crossfire, was revealed, and students learned about their competition playing field, rules, and team kits.

Shelton’s BEST Kickoff prepared teams for the upcoming Shelton’s BEST Robotics Competition on Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28. Known as “Game Day,” events on Saturday, October 28 will be open to the public and will include door prizes and a costume contest. Admission to Game Day is free, and community members are invited to volunteer or attend.

BEST is a non-profit, volunteer-based program designed to inspire students through competitive robotic design. Through exploration and creativity, student teams are encouraged to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines. Additionally, Shelton’s BEST enhances marketing-based skills. The marketing category of competition allows students to brand and advertise their school’s robotic concept. All teams have the opportunity to be mentored by engineers and technical professionals from local industry.

For more information or to volunteer at the Shelton’s B.E.S.T. Robotics Competition, contact outreach@sheltonstate.edu or visit sheltonstate.edu/BEST.
