FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO HOST COMMUNITY THEATRE FESTIVAL NOVEMBER 10 & 11

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will host the Alabama Conference of Theatre’s annual Community Theatre Festival (ACTFest) November 10 and 11 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

ACTFest gives community theatre artists from across the state an opportunity to showcase their work and the potential to earn a place at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) Community Theatre Festival. Participating companies prepare a 60-minute (maximum) performance, which may be an entire one-act play or a cutting or selection from a full-length play. Each company must fit all its scenery and props into a 10-foot by 10-foot square before its performance. The rules require companies to set-up during a 10-minute window, perform during a 60-minute window, and breakdown and return their sets to their 10 by 10 squares during a final 10-minute strike window. Three independent adjudicators then review each performance and ultimately determine which productions will go on to represent Alabama at SETC (March 7-10, 2018, in Mobile, Alabama).

This year’s ACTFest will feature four performances by four community theatres from three different cities. The Actor’s Charitable Theatre (Tuscaloosa) will perform a selection from Disaster!; Auburn Area Community Theatre will perform Motherhood Out Loud, South City Theatre (Pelham) will perform a selection from Doubt, A Parable, and Theatre Tuscaloosa will perform The End of a Line.

Performances are organized into two performance blocks on Saturday, November 11, and members of the public may purchase tickets to attend either or both of the performance blocks. Performance Block A will run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will include Disaster! and Motherhood Out Loud. Performance Block B will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will include Doubt, A Parable and The End of a Line. Tickets to individual performance blocks are $10.00 each, or both performance blocks may be purchased together for $15.00. Those who purchase the combined package will also be offered admission to the hospitality suite where refreshments will be available at no charge.

Those who join the Alabama Conference of Theatre ($25.00 annual dues) may attend all the ACTFest performances, workshops, and events at no additional charge. In addition to the performances on Saturday, two workshops will be presented, and an awards ceremony will also be held after the performances. Workshops include “Courting Corporate Sponsorships for Community Theatres” presented by Theatre Tuscaloosa Managing Director Adam Miller and “Costuming 9-1-1” presented by

Theatre Tuscaloosa Costumer Jeanette Waterman.
