FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO PRESENT SONDHEIM COMEDY

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Stephen Sondheim’s Company March 31-April 9 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

This Tony Award-winning modern musical is a witty and engaging dark comedy. On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state, and during a hilarious array of interactions, his married friends explain the pros and cons of taking a spouse.

The cast includes Justin Barnett, Sarah Kathryn Bonds, Ava Buchanan, Dylan Davis, Beth Feller, Royce Garrison, Lindsey Jones, Danielle Molina, Charles Prosser, Wesley Rorex, Ray Taylor, Laura White, Kathy Wilson, and Bridget Winder.

“My first show with Paul was a walk-on role in Sweet Bird of Youth in 1981. Over these 35 years, I have gone on to perform in over 20 Paul Looney shows,” said Taylor. “I auditioned for Company all three times. I guess third time is the charm!”

The production team includes Paul K. Looney, director; Leslie Poss, musical director; Tyler Afflerbach, stage manager; Rebecca Tingle, choreographer; Wheeler Kincaid, scenic designer; John and Erin Hisey, lighting designers; and Jeanette Waterman, costume designer.

Wilson has also worked with Looney over the last 35 years. She was cast in both the 1982 and 1994 productions of Company. “Company is one of my favorite musicals, and I know this show is very meaningful to him (Looney),” said Wilson. “He has instilled a deep and lasting love of theatre in me, and I will forever be grateful to him for the experiences he’s given me onstage and offstage as part of the theatre family he has created here in Tuscaloosa.”

Theatre Tuscaloosa’s 2016-17 Season: Share the Dream is presented in cooperation with Shelton State Community College and is supported by the City of Tuscaloosa, Mercedes-Benz, WVUA23, and Townsquare Media. Company is supported by Southland Benefit Solutions and a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
