FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO HOLD AUDITIONS AUG. 18 & 19

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its season opener, The 39 Steps, Friday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd.).

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python, and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit! Directed by Michael Walker, this two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat-of-a-mystery is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters, an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance!

The 39 Steps has three male roles and one female role available. Those who audition should be prepared to participate in cold readings from the script and some improvisational games. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.

Scripts of The 39 Steps are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

Rehearsals will begin August 21, 2017. Rehearsals are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

The 39 Steps will be presented September 22-October 1, 2017, in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, September 23. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, September 27; and Saturday, September 30. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m., a portion of proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.

More details are available at www.theatretusc.com or at 205.391.2277.
