FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO HOLD AUDITIONS FEB. 4 & 5

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its first musical production of 2017, Company, on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5 at 3:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located just off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd.).

Following his dream, Paul Looney directed his first Theatre Tuscaloosa show, Company, in 1982. The revival of Company celebrates the legacy of his vision and artistry.

This Tony Award-winning modern musical by Stephen Sondheim is a witty and engaging dark comedy. On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state, and during a hilarious array of interactions, his married friends explain the pros and cons of taking a spouse.

Company has six male roles and eight female roles available for individuals between the ages of 20 and 55.

Those who audition should be prepared to 1) sing sixteen bars of a song in the style of the show and bring sheet music of the entire song with the appropriate places to start and stop clearly marked (an accompanist will be provided); 2) participate in cold readings from the script; and 3) bring appropriate shoes and attire for the dance portion. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.

Scripts of Company are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

Rehearsals will begin the week of February 13, 2017. Rehearsals are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

Company will be presented March 31 – April 9 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, April 1. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, April 5; and Saturday, April 8. A pay-what-you-can dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m., all proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.

A gala celebration of Paul Looney’s career will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the evening of April 8; the cast will be expected to participate.
