SHELTON STATE TERRIFIC TUESDAY CONCERT SERIES

TO HOST NEWEST MUSIC FACULTY MEMBER

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – Shelton State Community College’s Terrific Tuesday Concert Series will host Dr. Christopher O’Rear on Tuesday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. in the Alabama Power Recital Hall on the Martin Campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Christopher O’Rear only recently came to Shelton State Community College. He is not unfamiliar with the Tuscaloosa area, having completed his doctorate at the University of Alabama in 2011. He has returned to Tuscaloosa from Anniston where he was the head of the music department at Talladega College and taught voice, music theory, and music history.

A native of Taylors, South Carolina, Dr. O’Rear holds degrees from Winthrop University, Samford University, and the University of Alabama. As a singer, he is active as a recitalist around the southeastern United States and in Italy. On stage, he has given voice to such characters as Leoncavallo’s Tonio in Pagliacci, Puccini’s Scarpia in Tosca, and Britten’s Bud in Albert Herring. He brings a broad range of experiences to share with his new students at Shelton State and does so with great enthusiasm.

Shelton State’s Terrific Tuesday Concert Series is designed to showcase a variety of repertory styles. Weekly performances are offered by guest artists as well as Shelton State faculty and students.
