FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO HOLD AUDITIONS JANUARY 5 & 6

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for Cabaret on Friday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

Cabaret is set in 1920s Berlin. Cliff, a young, American novelist, has come to find his muse. He is eagerly swept into the world of the Kit Kat Klub, where the incomparable emcee, played by Ray Taylor, proclaims that there are no troubles and life is a cabaret! Cliff's typewriter sits idle as he becomes entangled with the mysterious Sally Bowles. Little do they know that a dark, menacing power is on the rise in Berlin, but for now they remain blissfully ignorant. After all, in the Kit Kat Klub,

“Life is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, and even the orchestra is beautiful!”

Cabaret has both male and female roles available for ages 18 and up. Those who audition should prepare 16 measures of a song in the style of the show, bring appropriate shoes and attire for the dance portion, and be prepared for cold readings from the script. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.

Scripts of Cabaret are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – noon.

Rehearsals will begin January 11 at 7:00 p.m. Rehearsals are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

Cabaret will be presented February 23-March 4, 2018. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays; Fridays; and Saturday, February 24. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, February 28; and Saturday, March 3. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m., proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
