THEATRE TUSCALOOSA ANNOUNCES 2017-2018 ACADEMY CLASSES

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy will offer five educational activities this season for novice, experienced, and child/teenager/adult participants alike at Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Road).

The season will kick off with a House Manager Training Workshop on Thursday, September 7, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall. Our house managers work hand-in-hand with the ticket office staff, stage manager, and ushers to bring a welcoming and enjoyable experience to each performance. This workshop is free and open to participants who are ages twenty-one and up. Those who wish to participate should R.S.V.P. by calling 205.391.2277 or signing up online at theatretusc.com.

On Thursday nights beginning September 14, 2017, Beth Patrick will conduct an eight-week Adult Tap Dance Class for participants ages sixteen and up of any experience level. The class will be offered from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the dance studio. The cost to participate is $40. A showcase will be held during the final class on November 2, 2017. Two Triple Threat Audition Workshops will be offered this season in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall: Thursday, November 16, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. This workshop is free and available for participants ages sixteen and up. This mock audition workshop prepares actors for a real audition by requiring a one-minute monologue, sixteen bars of a musical theatre song, and small piece of choreography learned on-site. Those who participate will receive feedback from The 39 Steps director, Michael Walker, and experienced theatre performers.

The 2017-18 Academy season will conclude with Theatre Camp June 18-29, 2018, for those who will have completed kindergarten through eleventh grade. Theatre Camp is offered in partnership with Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre Mondays - Fridays in the Fine Arts wing at Shelton State Community College. More information and registration will be released in early 2018.
