FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO PRESENT SECONDSTAGE SHOW AT THE DRISH HOUSE

(TUSCALOOSA, AL) – Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Heather McCutchen’s Alabama Rain May 3-7 at The Historic Drish House (2700 17th Street, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401).

Monty Lou's been pregnant for ten years; Laurie Laurie's dead spirit sings from the old magnolia tree; Pheenie's walking the entire coast of Florida; Rachel's gone to fetch the Ouija board; and little Dallas LaDean is determined to save them all. In Alabama Rain, Heather McCutchen tells the tale of five sisters living in a mythical Southern town where it has not rained in forty years. The play examines the perils of a stagnant existence and the sisters' thirst for growth as they battle with the powerful force of "the way things have always been."

“We love to give artists opportunities; it’s one of our favorite things to do, and that’s just what SecondStage does,” says executive producer Tina Turley.

The SecondStage program exists to give emerging artists an opportunity to experiment in a safe, nurturing environment. SecondStage productions are created on a shoestring budget and features new directors, designers, and performers.

The cast includes Faith Bonitz (Dallas), Hope Bonitz (Laurie Laurie), Hannah Byrd (Monty Louise), Brooke West Carr (Pheenie), and Rachel Potts (Rachel). They are led by director Kiera Gillock.

“For our SecondStage program, we really wanted not only to be a voice for the arts in Tuscaloosa, but also to work with other community members to shine a light on our city,” says Gillock.

The production team also includes stage manager Amanda Horowitz and costume designer Jeanette Waterman.

“For us, bringing Alabama Rain to The Drish House wasn’t just looking for a venue to hold a show. The house has become this beautiful, historic backdrop to set the stage for our play and has given us a way to remember our roots in the city while we continue to grow and build our programming,” says Gillock.

Alabama Rain will be presented Wednesday, May 3 through Friday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. at The Historic Drish House.

General admission tickets are available in advance or at the door for $8. Due to limited seating, advanced purchase is recommended. Tickets and more information are available at www.theatretusc.com or 205.391.2277.
