FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO HOLD SUMMER MUSICAL AUDITIONS

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its summer musical, Ragtime, on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located just off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd.).

Both the hope and promise of the American dream are coursing through the veins of turn-of-the-century New York in this 1998 Tony Award-winning musical. The inspiring stories of an upper-class wife who unexpectedly becomes a single mother; a determined Jewish immigrant and his daughter; and a daring, young Harlem musician are masterfully woven together as the original melting pot is on the verge of boiling over. Underscoring everything is a new sound, a new beat, a new rhythm for a new time—Ragtime.

Ragtime has roles available for males and females between ages seven and seventy.

Those who audition should be prepared to 1) sing sixteen bars of a song in the style of the show and bring sheet music of the entire song with the appropriate places to start and stop clearly marked; an accompanist will be provided; 2) participate in cold readings from the script; and 3) bring appropriate shoes and attire for the dance portion. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.

Scripts of Ragtime are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon.

Rehearsals will begin May 15th and are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy will hold the Triple Threat Audition Workshop on Thursday, April 13 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall. The cost to attend is $10, and a maximum of twenty participants will be accepted. Call 205.391.2277 or visit our website for tickets and more information.

Ragtime will be presented July 14–23 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, July 15. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, July 19; and Saturday, July 22. A pay-what-you-can dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m., and a portion of proceeds will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
