SHELTON STATE TERRIFIC TUESDAY CONCERT SERIES

WELCOMES DR. DIANE BOYD-SCHULTZ AND DR. CHRISTY LEE

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – Shelton State Community College’s Terrific Tuesday Concert Series will feature flutist Dr. Diane Boyd-Schultz and pianist Dr. Christy Lee on Tuesday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Alabama Power Recital Hall on the Martin Campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

Flutist and piccoloist Diane Boyd Schultz has established her career through solo and chamber performances in the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Romania, and Austria. She is a prizewinner of several national and international competitions. She has also recorded for the Emmy award-winning documentary Weathered Secrets and for incidental music to the play Death of a Salesman. She has presented master classes and clinics in England, Québec, the Bahamas, Cuba, and throughout the United States. A Rotary International Scholar, she studied at McGill University in Montréal, and she has received grants to pursue her interest in studying and commissioning new works for flute and piccolo by American composers. Her articles have appeared in Flute Talk, Pan, and Instrumentalist. Schultz is professor of flute for the School of Music at the University of Alabama, where she is also a member of the Capstone Wind Quintet. She is a Yamaha Performing Artist.

Dr. Christy Lee has joined the fine arts faculty of Maryville College as a lecturer in collaborative piano and orchestra conductor. Lee earned a bachelor of music degree in piano performance from the University of Alabama and a master of music degree in accompanying from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She received her doctor of music degree in piano performance (chamber music and accompanying) from Florida State University. Previously, Lee was an assistant professor of music at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and an assistant professor of music at the College of the Bahamas, where she was the director of the COB Concert and Chamber Choir. She was music director of UT Opera Theater and Knoxville Opera Studio, and she has worked with several opera companies, including Knoxville Opera, Opera Memphis, Chattanooga Opera, and Cleveland Opera.

Shelton State’s Terrific Tuesday Concert Series is designed to showcase a variety of repertory styles. Weekly performances are offered by guest artists as well as Shelton State faculty and students.
