SHELTON STATE VETERANS AFFAIRS PARTNERS WITH

LOCAL CHURCHES FOR EMPLOYMENT OUTREACH

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – Shelton State Community College Veterans Affairs is partnering with Bass Tabernacle, Martin Mission, and the Greater St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church to host an outreach event in the Akron community on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m at Bass Tabernacle in Akron. The goal of the event is to connect underserved populations with employment opportunities and provide resource information for veterans. Though the event is designed primarily for Hale County veterans, the event is free and all are invited to attend.

The West Alabama Chamber of Commerce and West Alabama Works are assisting with the event by providing Career Connect to connect qualified workers with local employers. Information will also be provided about the Hale County Automotive Logistics Partnership.

The pastors of the participating churches look forward to the opportunities available to their congregations and community. “At Bass Tabernacle CME Church we believe that community empowerment through events like this restores hope in our fellow citizens,” said Rev. Eddie C. Richardson, Pastor of Bass Tabernacle C.M.E. “We look forward to every opportunity to participate in joint efforts such as this to demonstrate the vision of true community.” Rev. L. Jermaine Woods, Pastor of Greater St. Paul C.M.E agrees. “The Church has a responsibility to minister to the whole man--mind, body, and spirit. We hope to show our surrounding community that we care about the well-being of all families and we are dedicated to providing better resources that will help them work towards a more abundant life. We appreciate the many organizations that are partnering with us to make this a reality.”

“This event is just the foundation on which we’re building to equip those in smaller communities with the means and the information to be able to give back to the community,” says Eric Prewitt, Veterans Affairs Liaison at Shelton State Community College. “I’m thankful for the collaborative efforts of everyone involved. The event provides the community with veteran resources, but we welcome any and every one to come out and support the event even if it is to say hello.”

Bass Tabernacle is located at 22890 County Road 32 in Akron, Alabama. For more information, contact Eric Prewitt at 205.391.3977 or eric.prewitt@sheltonstate.edu.
