FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO HOLD AUDITIONS JAN. 3 & 4

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for The Real Queen of Hearts Ain’t Even Pretty on Tuesday, January 3 and Wednesday, January 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd.).

In this 1976 witty southern comedy, all the "popular" girls dream of winning the crown at the Queen of Hearts beauty pageant in small-town Alabama. Original cast member Drew Baker directs this 35th anniversary production by critically-acclaimed Alabama playwright Brad Bailey.

The Real Queen of Hearts has four roles available for high school-aged girls.

Those who audition should be prepared to participate in cold readings from the script, and they should bring their calendars listing all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule.

Scripts of The Real Queen of Hearts are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

Rehearsals will begin within a week of auditions. Rehearsals are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

The Real Queen of Hearts will be presented February 10-19, 2017, in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, February 11. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, February 15; and Saturday, February 18. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m., all proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
