FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO PRESENT CHARLES DICKENS CLASSIC

(TUSCALOOSA, AL) – Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol December 9-18 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College.

In this stage adaptation of the Dickens classic, four spirits visit Ebenezer Scrooge in his dreams to help him find the true meaning of Christmas. It is a show for young and old and a great way for families to celebrate the holiday spirit.

“It’s been over 20 years since Theatre Tuscaloosa has done A Christmas Carol,” says Tina Turley, executive producer and director of A Christmas Carol. “Some stories never grow old because of their beautiful messages of hope and redemption. Come experience the holidays with us, and ‘God bless us every one!’”

The rest of the production team includes Tyler Afflerbach, stage manager; Wheeler Kincaid, scenic and sound designer; Rich Dunham, lighting designer; Ernie Turley, music coordinator; Laurel Walker, choreographer; and Jeanette Waterman, costume designer.

Filled with both new faces and old, the cast includes Rachel Armbrester, Justin Barnett, Nate Blakely, Margaret Carr, Bucky Clements, Grace Conner, Kendall Corkren, Shaquala Courtland, Carol DeVelice, Mac Hackney, Chandon Hebert, Courtney Hoyle, Addison Hudnall, Porsche Kemp, Kelsey Killgore, Krishan Singh King, Ashlynn Koontz, Crystal Lassiter, Zoe Lassiter, Caroline Pope, Jessica Prather, Declan Robinson, Finn Robinson, Helen Smith, Brody Southern, Logan Spradley, James Stallworth, Paige Stroud, Ivan Taylor, George Thagard, Tara Trent, Ebone Tucker, Elizabeth Ward, Jake Whipple, Liza Beth Whipple, Jeff Wilson, Rhonda Wooley, and Wescott Youngson.

Jeff Wilson (Scrooge) says A Christmas Carol is his favorite of all the Christmas tales. “My first experience with A Christmas Carol was in fifth grade, and I was cast as Old Joe. Since then, I have always wanted to play Scrooge.”

Crystal Lassiter, newcomer to the Bean-Brown stage, will be sharing this new experience with her daughter Zoe. “Excited doesn’t begin to describe the way Zoe and I feel as we embark upon this journey,” says Lassiter. “As a first-year teacher at Holt High School, I would like to explore the possibility of developing a partnership to expose my Intro to Drama students to the theater world, giving them another outlet to express themselves.”

Theatre Tuscaloosa’s 2016-2017 Season: Share the Dream is presented in cooperation with Shelton State Community College and is made possible with support from the City of Tuscaloosa, Mercedes Benz, and WVUA23. A Christmas Carol is supported by Afflink, Bank of Tuscaloosa, and TotalCom Marketing. Radio support is provided by Townsquare Media.
