FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA TO HOLD AUDITIONS AUG. 20 & 21

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its first musical production of the 2016-2017 Season, The Marvelous Wonderettes, on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located just off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

This smash off-Broadway hit takes audiences first to the 1958 Springfield High School Prom and then to the ten-year reunion of Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! While sharing their lives and loves over a decade, the girls sing classic '50s and '60s hits, like "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Son of a Preacher Man," and "It's My Party."

The Marvelous Wonderettes has four roles available for women between the ages of 18 and 28.

Those who audition should be prepared to 1) sing sixteen bars of a pop song from the 50’s or 60’s and bring sheet music of the entire song with the appropriate places to start and stop clearly marked (an accompanist will be provided); 2) participate in cold readings from the script; and 3) bring appropriate shoes and attire for the dance portion. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.

Scripts of The Marvelous Wonderettes are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday throughThursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon.

Rehearsals will begin August 22, 2016. Rehearsals are generally Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

The Marvelous Wonderettes will be presented September 30 – October 9 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, October 1. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, October 5; and Saturday, October 8. A pay-what-you-can dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m., all proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.

More details are available at www.theatretusc.com or at 205.391.2277.
