SHELTON STATE TRAINS STUDENTS FOR HIGH DEMAND JOBS IN CARPENTRY

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – In response to a skills shortage in the field of carpentry, Shelton State is partnering with local businesses and industries to prepare students for jobs in the carpentry field.

The Shelton State carpentry program will use a combination of classroom and shop projects to help students gain in-depth knowledge of building construction. The three-semester program includes fundamental, intermediate, and advanced carpentry. WIOA approved, the program will teach safety, terminology, materials, and tools used in the field.

“We are very excited about this partnership to address a skills shortage in carpentry,” says Nicole Dubose, Director of Training for Business and Industry at Shelton State.

“There is a great need in our area for trained carpenters and the skills attained in our program often lead to higher paying jobs and a worker’s overall employ-ability.”

The carpentry courses, taught through Shelton State’s Community Education, will begin on September 13. For more information, contact Margie Falls at 205.391.2434 or mfalls@sheltonstate.edu.
