Career Technical Dual Enrollment Press Conference

A new career technical dual enrollment tax credit allowing more students to enroll in programs preparing them for high-demand, high-wage jobs will be the subject of a news conference to be held at Shelton State Community College on May 19 at 2:00 p.m.

WHO: Shelton State Community College, the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, Mercedes-Benz U.S.I., local legislators

WHAT: Dual Enrollment opportunities for both local businesses and students.

· Introduction/overview of the legislation and budget –Terry Waters, ACCS Senior Executive Director of Economic and Workforce Development

· Overview of the bill and budget – Rep. Bill Poole

· Importance of Dual Enrollment - Sen. Gerald Allen

· Impact of new legislation on Shelton State Community College – Dr. Joan Davis, Interim President, Shelton State Community College

· Impact of new legislation on students – Bennett Alexander, dual credit welding student, Hillcrest High School

· Impact of new legislation on the business community – Steve Colburn, Specialist, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Mercedes-Benz U.S.I.

WHEN: Monday, May 19, 2014, at 2:00 p.m.

WHERE: Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus, Machine Tool and Computerized Numerical Control labs Enter through the front entrance.

WHY: New legislation allows businesses and individuals to donate funds for career technical dual enrollment and receive tax credits. Businesses donating to the scholarship program can direct the majority of their donation to specific training programs.
