FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

August 16, 2013 (TUSCALOOSA, AL) - Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors on Thursday and Friday, September 5 and 6, at 6 pm in the Bean-Brown Theatre at Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful 1986 film version starring Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid). Little Shop of Horrors has roles for men and women ages 18 and up. The casting for this production will be multi-cultural; all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

Auditionees will be expected to sing 16 measures of a musical theatre or pop song and should bring sheet music of the entire song in the appropriate key with clear markings of where to start and stop. A pianist will be provided, no recorded; music will be allowed. Auditionees should be familiar with the role in which they are most interested. Auditionees will participate in cold readings from the script, and those being considered for certain roles will be called back to dance.

Rehearsals will begin September 16. Rehearsals are generally held Monday-Friday from 7 pm-10 pm and Sunday afternoons or evenings; Saturdays are generally off until performance weeks.

Scripts of Little Shop of Horrors are now available to read in advance (recommended) in the Ticket Office. Scripts may not leave the premises, however. The Ticket Office is open Monday-Thursday 9 am-5 pm and Fridays 9 am-noon.

Little Shop of Horrors will be presented Oct. 25-Nov. 3, 2013 at the Bean-Brown Theatre on Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus. Performances will be held at 7:30 pm Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2pm on Wednesday and Sundays. A Pay-What-You-Can dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 pm. More details, including character descriptions, are available at www.theatretusc.com or 205.391.2277.
