FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA USES THE FORGOTTEN CAROLS TO HELP THE HUNGRY

November 25, 2013 (TUSCALOOSA, AL) – Theatre Tuscaloosa is partnering with the Community Soup Bowl to give back this holiday season. Audience members are encouraged to bring a canned-food donation to any performance of The Forgotten Carols and Theatre Tuscaloosa will exchange it for a coupon good for $2 off tickets to any future 2013-14 Season production.

The Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl is a cooperative effort to help alleviate problems associated with poverty in Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas. Amy Grinstead, Executive Director, said the organization provides meals for people of all walks of life, averaging around 240 plates a day, and exceeding 300 plates when busy.

"The food items we receive now will be used throughout this month and into the new year to feed many people during the holiday season," she said.

Tina Turley, Theatre Tuscaloosa Executive Producer, said she is thrilled to be able to help out a local organization in this way.

“Community is what Theatre Tuscaloosa is all about. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the help of people willing to donate their time, talent and money to keep the arts alive in West Alabama, “ Turley said. “It is an honor to be able to give back to the community that gives our organization so much.”

A coupon good for $2 off tickets to any future production during the 2013-14 Season will be awarded for canned-food donations of any size; Grinstead asks that no breakfast food items be donated at this time. Those interested in contributing should bring their canned goods to a performance of The Forgotten Carols, which will be presented Dec. 2 and 3 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus. Performances will take place both Monday and Tuesday at 7:30pm.

Tickets to The Forgotten Carols are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors (60+) and $14 for students and children. Special rates are available for groups of 10 or more in advance. For more information about the 2013-14 Season or to purchase tickets visit, www.theatretusc.com or call (205) 391-2277.
