Shelton State to Honor Veterans on November 7

Tuscaloosa – Shelton State Community College will honor Tuscaloosa area veterans on November 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the atrium of the Martin Campus at 9500 Old Greensboro Road.

“We plan to have many booths to provide information on services available to veterans,” said Eric Prewitt, Shelton State’s Coordinator of Veteran’s Services. “Shelton State Community College is committed to providing veterans with a successful educational experience. The Veterans Information Center (VIC) serves as a location where veterans and dependents of veterans can obtain information concerning any education benefits for which they qualify.”

Participating organizations will include Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center programs: Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership (VITAL), OEF/OIF/OND Transition Services, Human Resources - Pathways Program, Million Veterans Program, Homeless Programs, Women’s Clinic Program, Pro-Vet, and Vocational Rehabilitation.

Additional Participants include: Tuscaloosa Career Center, Love, Inc., University of West Alabama, U.S. Army National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve, VFW Post 6022, and VFW Post 6022 Ladies Auxiliary.

That evening, during halftime of the first game of the 2013-14 Southland International Tournament played in the Martin Campus Gymnasium, there will be a special presentation made to Adam Lunceford.

Lunceford, who was wounded in action on August 19, 2010, will be officially presented the “Purple Heart.”
