TUSCALOOSA, (AL) - Governor Robert Bentley has appointed Mrs. Gladys Hill, Assistant Dean of Health Services at Shelton State Community College, to the Alabama Board of Nursing. The 4-year appointment begins January 1, 2014.

“I am humbled and honored to be given this opportunity to serve my state in this capacity,” says Hill. “It will be a challenge as with any new role there is a huge learning curve. I ask for your continued support and prayers as I embark on this new role.”

In his appointment letter, Governor Bentley wrote, “I appreciate your willingness to serve in this position, and I am confident that your time will be spent in a manner to improve the State of Alabama,”

Hill studied Pre-Nursing at Spring Hill College in her hometown of Mobile and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She later earned a Master of Science in Nursing at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi.

She began her career at Shelton State Community College in 1984 as a Nursing Instructor and was promoted to Director of Nursing programs in 1994 where she served

in that capacity for 10 years. In 2004, Hill was named Assistant Dean of Health Services.

“The appointment carries with it enormous responsibilities as the main role of the Alabama Board of Nursing is to protect the public by ensuring competent nursing care is delivered within the scope of nursing practice,” says Hill. “This also includes ensuring only properly educated individuals are licensed. This is the area where I can be of service especially as it relates to nursing education in the Alabama Community College System where over 60% of Registered Nurses and an even a larger percentage of Practical Nurses are educated in this state,” says Hill.

“Shelton State is especially pleased for and very proud of Mrs. Hill,” says President Davis. “She has been an asset and a significant contributor to the College and I expect that she will soon prove to be the same for the State Board of Nursing.”
