Cook to be Honored by Girl Scouts

(Tuscaloosa) – Annette Cook, Director of The SOAR Institute (Student Opportunities for Achievement

and Resources) at Shelton State Community College, was named as a recipient of the “2013 Women

Who Serve West Alabama” by the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama.

The 2013 Women Who Serve awards recognize women in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Hamilton,

Lamar, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, or Tuscaloosa counties who have made significant

contributions serving their communities especially impacting the lives of women and girls.

The award will be presented February 28, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. at the University Church of Christ in

Tuscaloosa. First Lady of Alabama, Dianne Bentley, will be the keynote speaker.

The Shelton State SOAR Institute was launched in the fall 2011 semester to bridge the academic gap

between college and high school curricula.
