FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE TUSCALOOSA ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its upcoming production of The Dixie Swim Club on Friday and Saturday, August 24 and 25, in the Bean-Brown Theatre at Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

The Dixie Swim Club has roles for five adult women between the ages of approximately 38 and 50. Auditions will be held at 6pm on Friday, August 24, and at 2pm on Saturday, August 25. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Those who audition should bring their calendars so that they can list any conflicts they may have with the rehearsal schedule, and it is recommended to present a headshot and acting resume if available.

Rehearsals will begin on Monday, August 27. The rehearsal schedule will be finalized after casting, but rehearsals are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons and/or evenings. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays.

Scripts of The Dixie Swim Club are now available to read in the Ticket Office for those who wish to read the play in advance (recommended). Scripts may not leave the premises, however. The Ticket Office is open Monday-Thursday 9 am-5 pm and Fridays 9 am-noon.

The Dixie Swim Club is about five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team. They set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, and aging) that life flings at them. The Dixie Swim Club is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Adam Miller, Theatre Tuscaloosa’s managing director, will direct the play.

The Dixie Swim Club will be presented October 5-14 at the Bean-Brown Theatre on Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus. Performances will be at 7:30 pm Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2pm on Wednesday and Sundays. A Pay-What-You-Can dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, October 4, at 7:30pm. More details, including a detailed description of each character, are available at www.theatretusc.com or by phone at 205.391.2277.
