THEATRE TUSCALOOSA PRESENTS NOISES OFF, A LAUGH-OUT-LOUD BRITISH COMEDY

January 27, 2012 (TUSCALOOSA, AL) – Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Noises Off by Michael Frayn February 17-26 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on Shelton State’s Martin Campus. A British comedy set in the 1980’s, the show is filled with slapstick humor and some of the funniest dialogue ever written.

If laughter is the best medicine, then Noises Off is a double dose! This side-splitting farce gives audiences a glimpse behind the curtain as a cast of eccentric actors attempts to put on a play called Nothing On – in which nothing goes right. Flubbed lines, missed cues, and wardrobe malfunctions are just the beginning as this winning comedy reveals what can happen onstage when things go wrong offstage.

Directing Noises Off is Theatre Tuscaloosa’s Executive Producer, Tina Turley. While Turley has acted in a past production of Noises Off, this is her first opportunity to direct the show.

“This is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen, and it’s one of the most challenging shows I’ve ever directed,” said Turley. “Comedy is all about the timing, so the director has to be laser focused on every detail of the show to ensure that every line, every movement, and every prop is in exactly the right place at the right time to get the laugh.”

The cast of Noises Off will be playing on an enormous, two-story set. The scenery is constructed on top of a giant turn-table, allowing it to be rotated 360 degrees. This arrangement allows the audience to see the play-within-a-play presented from two perspectives – on stage and back stage.

“This show is truly going to be spectacular because of the amazing cast and talented production team that we’ve assembled,” said Turley. “We have a mix of Theatre Tuscaloosa veterans as well as some newcomers, and the chemistry on stage and off is going to make this show an absolute must see.”

The cast of Noies Off includes Drew Baker, Gary Wise, Will Nevin, Molly Page, Charles Prosser, Brooke Wood, Susie Johnson, Elliot Moon, and Wescott Youngson. The production team includes Wheeler Kincaid (scenic designer), Jeanette Waterman (costume designer), John Hisey (lighting designer), Jerrell Bowden (sound designer), and Ashlyn Lambert (stage manager).

Theatre Tuscaloosa’s 2011-12 Winning Season is presented in cooperation with Shelton State Community College and is sponsored by Alabama One Credit Union, Jamison Money Farmer, PC, al.com, Cumulus Media, and the City of Tuscaloosa. Noises Off is sponsored by the Yellowhammer Inn, Tanner & Guin, LLC, and B101.7 FM.
