SHELTON STATE PHI THETA KAPPA NEWS
TUSCALOOSA – The Shelton State Community College Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa inducted new members at its spring ceremony on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the College’s Martin Campus at 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.
The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.5 million members and 1,200 chapters located in 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, and Germany.

SHELTON RECEIVES AWARDS AT PHI THETA KAPPA STATE CONVENTION
TUSCALOOSA – Shelton State Community College earned recognition recently at the Phi Theta Kappa Alabama Regional Convention, held March 6-7, on its Martin Campus at 9500 Old Greensboro Road.
The College’s Alpha Epsilon Iota chapter earned the Five Star Award, the highest achievement level awarded by PTK. Individual award winners included: Victoria Corley – Outstanding Officer Award; Julia Speights – Paragon Award for Advisors; Brittany Lee – Newly elected Vice-President of Service for the Alabama Region; Justin Grimes – Outstanding President Award and election as the Alabama flag bearer at the Parade of Countries and States at the upcoming PTK International Convention.
The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society was established in 1918. It serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.3 million members and 1,100 chapters located in 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany, and Japan. In 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges.
