SHELTON PLAYERS INJURED IN ACCIDENT

TUSCALOOSA – Four members of the Shelton State Community College Men’s Basketball team are in stable condition after sustaining injuries Saturday morning in a single vehicle accident in Wilcox County.

 

The injuries to sophomore Trevell Coleman and freshmen Courtney Carr, Josh Mickler and Justin Wagner vary in severity, but none are considered to be life-threatening. The accident occurred just five days before the upcoming Alabama Community College Conference State Tournament, March 5-8, at Wallace State Community College. The top-seeded and two-time defending champion Buccaneers (28-2, 16-0) enter the tournament on a 28-game winning streak, but will likely be without the services of their assist leader in Coleman (4.97 apg), and leader in rebounds (6.57 rpg) and blocks (1.18 bpg) in Carr.

 

The Bucs lead the ACCC in scoring, averaging nearly 92 points per game, and are third in scoring defense allowing 50.62 points per game.

 

The men’s tournament will begin on Thursday, March 5, at 11a.m. Games will continue at1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. on Thursday. The Bucs begin their championship defense on Friday, time to be determined. Friday game times are 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. The semifinal round will be held on Saturday with games at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The men’s championship game will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 8.

Admission to the state tournament is $7 per day, $5 for senior adults, and $25 for a weeklong tournament pass.
