SHELTON STUDENT NAMED COCA-COLA BRONZE SCHOLAR

 

A Moundville resident is being recognized as a bronze scholar winner in the national All-USA Academic Team competition.

TUSCALOOSA – Moundville resident and Shelton State Community College student Vincent Jennings is a 2009 Coca- Cola Bronze Scholar selection in the recent national All-USA Academic Team competition.

Jennings, a sophomore at Shelton State Community College, is one of 50 bronze scholar winners in the national competition that recognizes outstanding community college students. He was listed as a scholar winner in the April 6 edition of USA TODAY.

The Coca-Cola Scholar program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the international honor society for community colleges. As a bronze scholar recipient, Jennings will receive a certificate, bronze medallion and $1,000.

Nearly 1,450 students from 800 community colleges in 49 states and Guam were nominated for USA Today's 2009 All-USA Community College Academic Team.

Twenty students were selected to the national team, each receiving a $2,500 stipend, obelisk, and medallion. The top scoring student from each of the 50 states was named a New Century Scholar and received a $2,000 stipend. Fifty students were named Gold Scholars, receiving $1,500; 50 students were named Silver Scholars, receiving $1,250, and 50 students were named Bronze Scholars, receiving $1,000.  An additional 150 national finalists were selected from multiple states, each receiving a $1,000 stipend.
