Theatre Tuscaloosa opens the 08-09 Season with MISCAST: A Mishap Musical Cabaret!

7/30/2008

Tuscaloosa - Theatre Tuscaloosa, to kick off group’s 10th year anniversary in the Bean-Brown Theatre, proudly announces the opening show of it’s “2008-2009 Season: A Few of Our Favorite Things.”

MISCAST, with performances scheduled for September 5, 6 and 7, 2008, will be a fun entertaining cabaret evening of musical theatre.  All performances will be at the Bean-Brown Theatre located on the Shelton State Community College Martin campus.  Single ticket prices for this general admission seating production are $22- adult; $17- senior and $10- student/child.  Tickets may be ordered on-line at theatretusc.com or by calling the box office 205.391.9236.

Kicking off the season is a three-performance production of MISCAST- A Mishap Cabaret Musical.  Compiled by Theatre Tuscaloosa’s executive producer, Tina Fitch and musical director, Leslie Poss, MISCAST will bring together some Theatre Tuscaloosa’s best to perform songs from Broadway shows in which they would never be cast.   The evening will highlight actors fulfilling dreams of performing songs that they usually only get to sing in the shower – but this time on stage and in the spotlight.

Still not sure what MISCAST means?  There are many ways an actor can be miscast for Theatre Tuscaloosa’s production.  For instance: a song designated for a female is sung by a male or designated for an adult performed by a child/teenager or maybe the role is dictated by a certain body type and the selected performer goes against the norm. Watch one of Theatre Tuscaloosa’s September 5, 6, or 7, 2008 MISCAST performances and you will see Broadway meet American Idol meet America’s Funniest Home Videos!  Join the cast for a party following the Friday, September 5th performance.  This show has a limited run and uses general admission seating: September 5, 6, and 7, 2008.

Ten years ago, 1998, Theatre Tuscaloosa realized a dream…a home of its own.  Moving to the Bean-Brown Theatre on Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus provided Theatre Tuscaloosa with one space for scenery to be constructed, costumes to be built and stored, rehearsals to be conducted, offices for staff, and a state-of-the-art theatre for all its shows.  From humble but determined beginnings as the Tuscaloosa Community Players in 1971, Theater Tuscaloosa has grown, thrived and reached out to become one of the largest theatre companies in Alabama.  Acclaim for Theatre Tuscaloosa has ranged from Governor’s Arts Awards to Druid Arts Awards, from top honors in regional theatre competitions to praise by national theatre critics.  Peter Filichia, who writes for Theatre Mania online and the Newark Star-Ledger said, “I’ve seen regional theatres virtually since their inception, and the work that this group does is not only a great credit to the town and the state, but the nation.”

Tickets for MISCAST may be ordered on-line at theatretusc.com or by calling the box office 205.391.2277.
