Five from Shelton State Included in Photography Exhibition

Tuscaloosa - Five students from Shelton State Community College’s Community Education photography courses will be featured in the Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa County’s fifth annualDouble Exposure Juried Photography Exhibition,” January 27th through February 28th, 2008, at the Bama Theatre’s Junior League Gallery.

The competition included photographers from the state of Alabama with approximately 100 pieces chosen to appear in the display.  Works were placed in either the Senior (Ages 18 and older) or Junior (Ages 12-17) divisions.  “Double Exposure” is the only state-wide competition for photographers in Alabama.

Representing Shelton State’s Community Education program will be Rhys Greene with three photographs, Ginny Mars with two photographs, Grace Ann Whiteside with two photographs, Betty Shipe with two photographs and photography instructor Michael Thornton with three photographs.

“I’m delighted that so many of our photography students have been selected for this prestigious exhibition,” said Shannon Gryska, Director of Community Education at Shelton State.  “Their inclusion is a real tribute to their skill, the effectiveness of our program and the talent of Michael our photography instructor.”

The exhibit opening and awards presentation will take place on January 27th, 2008 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm in the Junior League Gallery.  Awards in the Senior Division will include a $500 purchase award for Best of Show plus four $250 cash awards.  Senior Division winners will be invited to exhibit at Harrison Galleries, Tuscaloosa, in March, 2008.  Junior Division awards include a digital Canon camera for Best of Show plus four $250 cash awards.  Junior Division winners will be invited to exhibit at the Children’s Hands-On Museum, Tuscaloosa, in March 2008.
