Kim Smith, Director, and Jackie Williams, Instructor, were selected for state honors and will be featured in the annual Alabama "Faces of Nursing" calendar for 2009.  Twelve nurses from across Alabama were selected to appear in the second annual calendar.

 

Sandra Warren, Nursing faculty member, was selected for the Cindajo Overton Outstanding Nurse Educator Award of the Alabama State Nursing Association. The winner of the award is recognized for excellence in teaching, advancement of the science of nursing, and professional and community involvement.

 

Shelton State Community College Practical Nursing graduates achieved a 98.4% pass rate on N-CLEX Board Examinations and Associate Degree Nursing graduates achieved a 94.7% pass rate on N-CLEX Board Examinations.

 

Dr. Allen Mallory received the 2008 Chancellor’s Award for Academic Faculty at the recent meeting of the Alabama Community College Association Convention in Mobile.  Mallory joined the Shelton State faculty in 1982 and founded the Child Development Center and Early Childhood curriculum.  In addition to his teaching schedule, Mallory is in demand as a “key-note speaker” and frequently entertains at comedy clubs throughout the country.

 

Larry McAfee, instructor of Commercial Art at Shelton State, won first prize for his original drawing “Peace” in the 2008 Chancellor’s Art Exhibition for Alabama Community College System employees.
