Student Athletes Honored at Shelton State

Tuscaloosa – Six student athletes at Shelton State Community College have been honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Five student athletes were selected as “Distinguished Academic All-American.” To be chosen for the honor, students must maintain a 3.8 GPA and have earned at least 48 credit hours. Chosen for the award were Heather Allen of Pell City (Soccer); Kiah Brown of Haleyville (Men’s Basketball); Blake Harper of Tuscaloosa (Baseball); Sarah Sutton of Millbrook (Softball) and Suzy Smith of Maplesville (Softball).

Six students were named “Academic All-American” based on maintaining a GPA of 3.6 and having earned at least 48 credit hours. Chosen for this award were Brad Alexander of Pinson (Baseball), Laura Bonds of Hueytown (Softball); Leah James of Millbrook (Softball), Ben Stewart of Pelham (Baseball), Alisa Terrell of Guntersville (Soccer) and Brandon Wallace of Hartselle (Baseball).

National Junior College Athletic Association also announced the “Spring Academic Teams of the Year.” To be considered for this award the cumulative team GPA for a sport must be 3.0 or better. Shelton State’s Softball team was named a Spring Academic Team of the Year with an over-all GPA of 3.39.
