Shelton State Ambassadors Begin New School Year

            Almost every time you attend an event at Shelton State Community College you are greeted by a smiling member of the Shelton State Ambassadors who serve as the official hosts and hostesses of the college.

Being selected to join this elite group is a very prestigious honor at Shelton State.  Chosen by a panel of judges made up of Shelton State faculty and staff, Ambassadors give tours, assist at special events, greet community and civic leaders, and represent the college in a positive way.  The Ambassador program encourages the development of leadership skills in the college and the community. In appreciation for their hard work and dedication to the college, they receive a $500 scholarship each semester.

            On August 14, 2006, the Shelton State Ambassadors held their annual orientation at the Shelton State Foundation House. The major goal of the meeting was to get acquainted with each other.  Dr. Randy Jarrell, a psychology instructor and expert on team building, lead the group in a variety of exercises and activities designed to created a group bonding experience and in the process, teach the members a little bit about themselves.

            The Ambassadors held their first monthly meeting at the Shelton State Foundation House on September 5.  At the meeting, the second-year Ambassadors discussed their ideas about service projects that would benefit the college and community. The group also celebrated the birthdays of members born in August and September birthdays. The last order of business was the annual trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in late October. The college provides these students with the trip to Gatlinburg where they spend a weekend engaged in leadership activities.
