Caring Days/Lifelong Learning Art Exhibit Scheduled

Tuscaloosa – Shelton State Community College’s Lifelong Learning Center has teamed with Caring Days, an adult day care center, to provide art instruction for their clients.

George Parker, an art instructor for Shelton State’s Lifelong Learning Center, visits the center two mornings each week to teach the art of water color. The artwork has become so popular it is now printed on note cards and holiday cards that have special messages and a short biography of the artist on the back.

As a part of the program, an exhibition of work produced by the Caring Days artists has been scheduled to open July 21 at the National Bank of Commerce Gallery in the Sandra Hall Ray Fine Arts Center on the campus of Shelton State Community College at 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.

An opening reception will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on July 21.

Caring Days, an adult day care center, bridges the gap between independent living and highly restricted care. It provides a secure and happy environment for clients and carefully planned activities to keep them using their cognitive, language, social, and motor skills.

Caring Days was founded in 1994 by members of First Presbyterian Church who recognized the need for adult day care for those experiencing memory loss. Currently 19 congregations of various denominations work together to provide the program for adults with some form of memory disorder.
