Blackshear and Brown to Present Faculty Recital

Tuscaloosa - Mezzo-soprano Glinda Blackshear and tenor Mark Brown of the Shelton Sate Community College Music Department faculty will present a recital for the Terrific Tuesday Concert Series on January 31 at 1:00 p.m. in the Alabama Power Foundation Recital Hall on Martin Campus at 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa. Susan Goode will accompany the singers.

The program will consist of art songs and arias by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Lalo, Saint-Saens, and Barber.

Mrs. Blackshear has been teaching at Shelton for 21 years, and Dr. Brown joined the faculty in 1996. Both teach Voice and Music Appreciation and share the conducting responsibilities for the Shelton Singers. Mrs. Blackshear directs the "Bach to Rock Ensemble" and "Opera Workshop," while Dr. Brown teaches Class Voice, Percussion, and Theory Lab.

In the community, both Glinda Blackshear and Mark Brown have sung with the Tuscaloosa Community Singers and the Chanson Ensemble. Mrs. Blackshear is choir director at Covenant Presbyterian Church and Dr. Brown is choir director at Trinity Presbyterian Church. They have both held leadership positions in the Alabama Chapter of ACDA.

Both teachers are extremely proud that Shelton voice students are the only singers from two-year colleges to participate in the Alabama NATS Auditions; and every year, Shelton students have been finalists and winners.

The "Terrific Tuesday" Concerts are an integral part of Shelton State's cultural offerings for both its students and the West Alabama community.

All Terrific Tuesday concerts are free and open to the public, however seating is limited.
