Shelton State PTK Observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Tuscaloosa - The Shelton State Community College chapter of PTK will be selling Susan Koman Breast Cancer Foundation bracelets to raise money, as well as awareness, for breast cancer research during the month of October.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was founded on a promise made between two sisters – Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. Suzy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978, a time when little was known about the disease and it was rarely discussed in public. Before she died at the age of 36, Suzy asked her sister to do everything possible to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by establishing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982 in Suzy’s memory.

Purchase pink wristbands and pass them on to a friend or loved one and join in “Sharing the Promise”! Bracelets may be purchased for $3 from any of the members or officers of PTK or from Julia or John Speights or Claire Brock. All proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will go to the Susan Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.

Also, as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and for the local PTK chapter, cookbooks containing recipes from Alabama Regional and International PTK members and advisors are being sold. The books, with over 800 recipes, are available for $10.00 each and make wonderful gifts. The books are also available from PTK members and advisors.

For additional information on these projects, please contact Claire Brock at 205/391-3918 or by email at cbrock@sheltonstate.edu.
