Tuscaloosa – Kim Inman Smith, Director of Nursing Programs at Shelton State Community College, has announced that students taking the NCLEX-RN nursing exam during the past fiscal year had a 100% pass rate.

“We had 43 students test and 43 passed the NCLEX-RN. For the PN group we had 64 to test, 58 to pass for a 90.6% pass rate for the same time period,” said Smith.

NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations are administered by the Testing Services Department of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). The Alabama state standard is that 80% will pass NCLEX on their first attempt. The PN pass rate for Alabama was 87.9 with a RN rate of 86.87%.

“We know how fortunate we are to have the quality of faculty that we have. Each and every faculty member is to be commended for their incredible commitment and dedication. Their diligence has paid off in the outstanding test scores of our students,” said Camille Cochrane, Dean of Instruction at Shelton State.

In a message to Dr. Rick Rogers, President of Shelton State, Laura Steadman, Director of Health Programs for the Alabama College System offered her congratulations saying, “The Shelton State Nursing Program is to be commended.”
