FINE ARTS DIVISION PRESENTS “BROADWAY MELODIES & MEMORIES”

(Tuscaloosa) – The Fine Arts Division of Shelton State Community College will present the musical review “Broadway Melodies and Memories” October 30 through November 2 at the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Shelton State campus, 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.

Involving students from both the Theatre and Music Departments, “Broadway Melodies and Memories” draws on scenes and selections from numerous Broadway musicals including “The Man of LaMancha,” “The King and I,” “Chicago,” “Gypsy,” “Rent” and “The Secret Garden.” Scenes from plays are also represented in the production including “Steel Magnolias,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and “Crimes of the Heart.”

Directed by Michael Carr and Charles Prosser with musical direction by Glinda Blackshear, “Broadway Melodies and Memories” features a cast of over 30 students. Susie Johnson, who stars as Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream said, “I love performing and this production is a great opportunity to tackle Shakespeare – a challenge I’ve looked forward to. The show gives a large number of performing arts students the chance to play roles and perform songs they couldn’t have dreamed of attempting otherwise.”

“Broadway Melodies and Memories” will be presented October 30, 31 and November 1 at 7:30 P.M. with a final matinee performance on Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 P.M. No admission is charged and the public is cordially invited to attend.
