Shelton State Truck Driving Students Deliver Relief

Tuscaloosa - A Shelton State Community College 18-wheeler will hit the road on Wednesday, November 2 carrying 27,950 lbs of food to a distribution center in Waveland, Mississippi.

The food supplies have been collected by the West Alabama Food Bank in Tuscaloosa for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. The student drivers, who will be traveling with an instructor, have passed all required training and testing at Shelton State. The student drivers will assist the instructor in navigation and driving on the 500+ mile trip.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the two students as they gain valuable over the road driving experience involving traffic negotiation, negotiating weight scales, open road and city driving,” said Dave Rodgers, Assistant Director for Corporate Training and Services at Shelton State.

For additional information on the relief trip, contact Dave Rodgers at 454-6872.
