SHELTON STATE TO OBSERVE ALCOHOL AND DRUG AWARENESS WEEK

Shelton State Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society, is sponsoring Alcohol and Drug Awareness Week, November 3 through 6 on the Martin Campus at 9500 Old Greensboro Road.

Throughout the week drug and alcohol information will be available in the atrium and special activities include “Alcohol 101,” simulation goggles and displays by various organizations. The “In Memory of….” table will be available to post names of friends and loved ones who have suffered or perished due to alcohol or drug related incidents.

On Wednesday, November 5 at 4 P.M. Phi Theta Kappa will show the film “The Basketball Diaries” in the Alabama Power Foundation Recital Hall. Admission is free. A counselor from Bradford Health Services will be available for consultation at the conclusion of the film.

At 7:00 p.m. that evening a Community Forum will be held in the D-rooms of the Food Court. The community is invited to join the student body a question and answer session with a panel of drug and alcohol abuse professionals.

On Thursday, November 6, Bradford Health Services will host a Parent Support Group meeting in the D-rooms from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Concerned parents are encouraged to attend to find answers and help for their children.

A Candlelight Vigil will be held following the Parent Support Group meeting at 9:00 P.M. in the atrium to remember the victims and their families who have suffered from alcohol or drug abuse.
