Tuscaloosa – Kim Inman Smith, Director of Nursing Programs at Shelton State Community College, has been named a Program Evaluator for the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission.

The National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) is the entity that is responsible for the specialized accreditation of nursing education programs, both post-secondary and higher degree, which offer either a certificate, a diploma, or a recognized professional degree (Master’s, Baccalaureate, Associate Degree, Diploma, and Practical Nursing). The Commission has authority and accountability inherent in the application of standards and criteria, accreditation processes, and the affairs, management, policy making, and general administration of the NLNAC.

Smith, who was appointed Director of Nursing Programs in June 2005, has been employed by Shelton State Community College for the past 26 years. She holds a B.S. in nursing from the University of Alabama Huntsville, a master’s degree in adult education from the University of Alabama and has a post-graduate certificate in geriatrics from U.A. She received her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama Birmingham with a dual major in Adult Health and Teaching Nursing.

She has been named Nurse Educator of the Year by the Alabama State Nurses Association as well as being a recipient of “The Lamplighter” award from the Alabama League of Nursing and the “Dr. and Mrs. John Todd Excellence in Teaching” award from Shelton State. She currently serves as president of the Alabama State Nurses Association – District 2.
