Theatre Tuscaloosa Presents Tony and Pulitzer-Winning Proof

(Tuscaloosa) - Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Proof, a Broadway play written by David Auburn at the Bean-Brown Theatre in the Sandra Hall Ray Fine Arts Center on the campus of Shelton State Community College November 5 through 14.

Amanda Dodson, plays Catherine, a troubled woman in her mid twenties, adjusting to life without her parents and with her father's legacy of genius and mental illness. Catherine's father Robert (Gary Wise), a brilliant, but aging mathematician is dead and buried at the outset of the play. Robert taught Catherine to love math and she loved him very much in turn. Seen in the play during flashbacks, when Catherine was his caretaker in their Chicago home, Robert was troubled by the failure of his mathematical powers. Toward the end of his life with his illness in remission, he began a proof he never finished, but Catherine completed it in secret. When the proof is discovered, no one believes she wrote it. Robert's protégé Hal (Taylor Bridges) comes to believe her and falls for Catherine and she for him. The cast for the production also includes Anastasia Munoz as Claire, Catherine’s older sister, who has taken her mathematical ability to Wall Street.

Proof was the winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and also won the Tony Award for best play. In addition to Tina Fitch as director, artistic staff for Theatre Tuscaloosa’s production includes scenic design by Ben Boyer, lighting design by Erin Hisey and costume design by Jeanette Waterman. Jonathan Pate stage manages the production.

Performances are scheduled Friday and Saturday, November 5 and 6 at 7:30 P.M.; Sunday and Wednesday, November 7 and 10 at 2:00 P.M.; Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 11 through 13 at 7:30 P.M. and the closing performance will be on Sunday, November 14 at 2:00 P.M.
