Shelton State History Instructor Completes Text Review

(Tuscaloosa) – Dr. Chuck Boening, instructor of history at Shelton State Community College, has completed a review of the text for third edition of The American Promise published by Bedford/St. Martin's Press, a publisher of college texts and specializing in the humanities.

Boening has been employed by Shelton State for seven years and has been a full-time faculty member teaching history since January 2004. He holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science, a Master’s in History, and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration, all from the University of Alabama.

“I actually reviewed the whole 2nd edition, making suggestions for additions, deletions, changes, etc. for this 3rd edition. I’m extremely flattered that the publishers chose to print my review on the back cover of the text,” said Boening.

His review read in part, “I chose The American Promise with such zeal because students do care about the text and want it to be easy to read, relevant, and useful in the classroom. This book presents information in a clear, chronological manner, and it provides useful primary and secondary sources and interesting anecdotes, making it appealing to even the most apathetic students.”

“This is a real accomplishment and an official acknowledgement of Dr. Boening’s expertise in the field,” said Camille Cochrane, SSCC Dean of Instruction.
