DR. CORDELL WYNN HONORED BY NATIONAL ORGANIZATION

(Tuscaloosa) - Dr. Cordell Wynn, former president of Stillman College and currently special assistant to the President of Shelton State Community College, received the Presidential Leadership from the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO). The Presidential Leadership Award, the highest-ranking award presented by the organization, was presented at the group’s annual conference in Washington, D.C. on March 6.

Wynn was selected for the award due to his “ongoing contributions to strengthening and expanding educational opportunities for African Americans throughout the United States.”

The National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education is an association of Black Colleges and Universities. NAFEO’s role in the evolution of these historically and predominantly Black colleges and universities has been pivotal. Since its inception in 1969, NAFEO’s activities have influenced national and international appreciation for the attributes of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. NAFEO’s chief objective is to implement programs and policies which affect minority student enrollment, using diverse strategies to ensure an increase of Black students into HBCU establishments.

There are more than 100 institutions under the NAFEO-member umbrella. They consist of private two-year and four-year institutions, public two-year and four-year institutions, graduate and professional schools. They are located throughout the country: which includes fourteen Southern states, six Northern states, three mid-Western states, one Western state, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.

Wynn, who served as Stillman College president from 1982 until 1997, is past chairman of the Board of Directors of the NAFEO.
