MURPHY SPEAKS AT NAVAL RESERVE CENTER

TUSCALOOSA – Dr. Milady Murphy, Director of the Shelton State Community College Wellness Center, recently spoke to personnel at the Naval Reserve Center in Tuscaloosa on the topic "The value of Nutrition and Exercise to Enhance Performance in the Military, and Civilian Life".

The visit was coordinated by Petty Officer 3rd Class Vera Turner, a student in the Wellness Certificate Program at Shelton State.

“Vera sees the value of Wellness Education not only for herself but for her colleagues. She wanted to share some of what she has learned with members of her unit which I think is admirable,” said Murphy. “We distributed a packet on nutrition and fitness to approximately 100 navy personnel. Many of whom will be leaving for active duty next month.”

Dr. Murphy established the Wellness Center at Shelton State Community College in 1990 and has been its director since its inception. She has received numerous honors for work and is a nationally sought-after speaker. She holds a B.S. in Health, Physical Education, Sport and Dance from Bridgewater State College and M.S. and Ed.D. degrees in Physical Education from The University of Alabama. She is a regular guest on “Great Day Tuscaloosa” appearing each Friday at noon on Comcast Channel 20.
