Johnson Exhibit to Run Through December 20

Tuscaloosa – Shelton State Community College faculty member, Carole Johnson has a photography exhibition entitled “Unanswered Elvis” running through December 20 at the Ferguson Center gallery on the campus of the University of Alabama.

The exhibit was prepared in completion of her master’s degree program in art. “I started taking undergraduate art courses at Shelton in 1985 while I was a full-time English teacher, one a semester until 1992 when I applied to the University as an undergraduate in Art,” said Johnson. “I took one course a semester there until 1999 in order to get the equivalent of a BFA in art; then I entered graduate school in photography in fall 1999. Then it’s been one course a semester until this December when I finally got my Master’s in photography.”

Many of the images in the exhibit (which include gum bichromate prints, distressed silver gelatin prints, Xerox copies, as well as assemblages) were created from photographs Johnson took at Graceland, Elvis’s tourist-attraction/former-home.
