Sutton to Play for Shelton State

(Tuscaloosa) – Sarah Sutton of Millbrook has been awarded a scholarship by Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa to play softball for the “Lady Bucs,” Shelton State Women’s Softball Coach “Mitch” Mitchell recently announced.

Sutton, a recent graduate of Edgewood Academy, was a member of the school’s 2004 2A State Championship Team. Edgewood Academy finished the year with a 40-8 record, their 4th consecutive 2A Championship. Sutton was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Team (honorable mention), the 2A State All-Tournament Team, the Edgewood Spring Bash All-Tournament Team and the Montgomery Advertiser All-Metro Team in 2004.

Sutton, who pitched to a 15-4 regular season record with 95 strikeouts and a 1.45 ERA, had a 2-0 performance in the state playoffs pitching the championship game. She hit for a .394 average with 39 RBIs and 4 home runs during the season.

During the summer, Sarah was a member of the “K and D Slicing By” team and also played for the Montgomery Gray.

The daughter of Mike and Carol Sutton of Millbrook, Sarah will take to the field at Shelton State as a utility player with positions as pitcher and first and second baseman.
