SHELTON STATE HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 13

(Tuscaloosa) – Shelton State Community College will celebrate Homecoming on November 13 with a wide range of activities beginning at 11:00 A.M.

Special student events and games are planned from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. leading up to a campus-wide pep rally in the Umphrey Center on the Martin Campus at 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.

The celebration continues at 5:30 P.M. with a “Lady Bucs” basketball game and a men’s team game at 7:30 P.M. against Sneed State Community College. Both of Shelton State’s squads had excellent seasons last year with the men’s team winning the state championship for the first time and the women’s team finishing the season with a 25-8 record.

At 6:00 P.M. the Shelton State Alumni Association will host its 2003-2004 Membership Party in Room 1256, near the gymnasium. The gathering is a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Please let Ronda Shirley know if you would like to attend by Friday, November 7. One annual highlight of Shelton State Homecoming activities is the crowning of the Homecoming Queen at half-time of the men’s basketball game. This year there are five finalists vying for the title.

Nominated by the Shelton Singers, Jessica Christian is a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and has a 3.6 grade point average. She is the Vice-President and Scholarship Team Leader of Phi Theta Kappa, a member of Bach to Rock, a tutor in the Developmental Cohort and holds a work study job. She is also active in her church college group and hand bell choir. Jessica is the daughter of Dale and Sheila Christian of Northport, Alabama.

Angela Dianne McDaniel is a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School. An active member of NSNA and Financial Secretary of SSANS, she has received nominations from “Who’s Who Among Junior Colleges” and was awarded ‘Best Presentation and Presenter in Maternal Child & Pediatrics.” She currently has a 3.3 grade point average. McDaniel is a member of Crosspoint Ministry at L.O.H.B.C. She participates in the “Christmas Shoebox” program, and has participated in the “Locks of Love” Program by donating 12 inches of her hair for pediatric cancer patients. Her parents are David and Sherry McDaniel of Northport, Alabama.

Nominated by the Office of Admissions and Records, Donna Owens is a graduate of Hillcrest High School. A Shelton State Ambassador and work study in the Admissions Office, Donna has a 3.0 grade point average. She is a volunteer at the VA Hospital, a clerk for the Tuscaloosa License Commissioner, a babysitter and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Her parents are Carrie and Eddie Owens of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Julie Shukla was nominated by the campus newspaper, The Shelton State Courier. She is a graduate of Hueytown High School and has a 4.0 grade point average. She is a staff writer for the Courier, a member of Phi Theta Kappa honorary and is a former officer of SGA. Shukla is active in her church and participates in many community activities. She is the granddaughter of Sue Farr of Hueytown, Alabama.

Angela Nicole Thomas was nominated by the Shelton State Women’s Basketball Team of which she is a member. Thomas is a graduate of Faith Academy and currently has a 3.5 GPA. She is a member of Team Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is active in community service and was chosen for the All-State Tournament Team for 2002-2003. She is the daughter of Aden and Bea Thomas of Citronelle, Alabama.

The November 13 games will also mark the first home-game appearance of Shelton State’s new athletic mascot “Captain Buckingham.” The event will also mark the use of Shelton State’s new fight song “Hey, Hey Shelton State” by Jeff Arthur of Jeff Arthur Productions in Clearwater, Florida one of the largest custom music houses in the United States specializing in jingles for radio and television advertising as well as film and television scores.
